Dear GW Students,
Welcome back from Spring Break! As you return to campus and continue pursuing your studies this semester, we want to take this opportunity to emphasize the importance of our shared responsibility to uphold the values and expectations that support the entire GW community.
Fostering an environment that is respectful, accountable, and safe for all remains our priority. Achieving this is only possible with the commitment of our student community. As we respect and honor our community’s right to free expression, we must also sustain a safe campus environment to enable the normal operations of our educational mission.
As we have shared previously, we recognize there is inherent tension in balancing these essential goals. We also know how important it is to ensure that all community members have the information, policies, and resources that provide the framework for maintaining an academic environment where all our community members are free to learn and work. Community members seeking to organize expressive activities can refer to the free expression website for useful information and guidance. Students should also be aware of this guidance concerning examples of potential conduct violations. Individuals who seek urgent assistance are reminded to contact the GW Police Department. As always, campus event registration procedures remain in place, and only recognized student groups in good standing may hold activities on campus.
It is important to remember that university guidance and policies are meant to protect and support all our community members. Respect for peers, faculty, and staff is fundamental to our shared experience, and every student must engage responsibly with others in ways that uphold integrity, dignity, and inclusivity. Behavior that is disruptive, harmful, or does not comply with GW policies will not be tolerated, and the university will hold students accountable for their actions according to university policy.
Our community thrives when we all uphold our shared commitments and responsibilities, and our staff and faculty will continue to be here to assist and guide you through challenges. We look forward to finishing the semester in a way that reflects the best of our community.
Sincerely,
Colette Coleman
