Rentals, Reservations & Equipment

The Lerner Health and Wellness Center is open to GW students and LWHC members for drop-in recreation. GW organizations and departments have priority to reserve space on a limited basis. Sports equipment, towels and locks are available to rental at the Equipment Desk.  All standard replacement fees will apply if any equipment is lost, damaged, or stolen. Sports equipment reservations are on a first come, first served basis and therefore the LHWC cannot guarantee the availability of all sporting equipment requested.

Court Reservations

Squash courts and the racquetball court are available for use during LHWC operating hours. All reservations will be made through our online reservation system.

Reservations can be made on the DSE facility scheduling page.

Please check in with our front desk staff to make reservations in person.

Locker Rentals

Overnight lockers are available to rent for a fee on a semesterly basis. Day use lockers are available for free. Locks are available for rent at the Equipment Desk, but must be returned at the end of the day or you will be assessed a lost lock fee and may lose rental privileges.

Special Events

If an individual or organization is interested in reserving a space in LHWC for an event that they are hosting, please submit requests through the DSE scheduling platform.

How to submit a request:

  • Select a date, time, and location in the building on the Availability Calendar.
  • Fill out all necessary information (general information, request details, additional information).
  • Submit the request and the facility scheduler will approve or deny the request.

Examples: Dance marathons, fraternity/sorority events, trivia nights, sporting events, etc.

All requests must be submitted at least 3 weeks in advance. 

Equipment Checkout

Sports and fitness equipment can be checked out for use within Lerner Health and Wellness Center. To check out equipment, bring your GWorld card with you to the Equipment Desk on the lower level of the facility and ask for the desired equipment.  

All patrons agree to abide by all of the following equipment rental policies:

  • Equipment must be returned by the time the building closes the day it was checked out.
  • Equipment must be checked back in with the Equipment Desk staff.
  • Pay the replacement cost of any check-out item by the end of the day of checkout.
  • Not returning equipment will also result in the loss of checkout privileges.

Policies & Conduct

General
  • A valid GWorld card is required for all members to enter Campus Recreation facilities.
  • Bags, coats, and other large personal items are not allowed in activity areas. Please store in lockers.
  • Food is only allowed on the second floor. No food is allowed in any locker room or activity area.
  • Please report any injury to the nearest staff member.
  • Smoking, vaping, tobacco, and gum are prohibited.
  • Bicycles, skateboards, scooters, roller blades, and roller skates cannot be used in any area of the facility. They must be secured in a locker or secured outside.
  • Animals are not allowed in the facility, except for service animals.
  • Outside private lessons or personal services are prohibited.
  • No photography or filming is allowed in the facility except by individuals wearing a valid LHWC Media pass.
  • All cell phone use is expressly prohibited in restrooms, locker rooms, and pool.
  • Shirts and appropriate attire for the activity must be worn throughout the facility.
  • All flyers must be approved and posted by LHWC staff. No external events or services may be promoted within Campus Recreation facilities unless approved.
  • No abusive language, offensive language, fighting, or other inappropriate behavior.
  • Violation of Campus Recreation rule, policy, or the GW Code of Student Conduct may lead to removal from the facility, loss or suspension of LHWC privileges, and/or other appropriate sanctions.
Membership and Facility Access
  • All patrons accessing the facility must display identification in the form of an active GWorld card.
  • All patrons accessing the facility must have an active Campus Recreation membership.
  • Guests accessing the building for special events must present a valid photo ID.
Special Populations (School Without Walls)
  • All School Without Walls (SWW) students must be accompanied and supervised by SWW staff.
  • Any SWW student showing up after the rest of the class has already entered the facility must remain in the lobby until a SWW staff comes to escort them to the appropriate location in the facility.
  • No SWW student is permitted into the facility outside of scheduled class times.
Lost and Found
  • Lost and found information will not be given over the phone.
  • Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Fitness Centers
  • All patrons use the LHWC Fitness Center at their own risk.  It is each individual’s responsibility to use all equipment safely and in the manner for which it is intended. 
  • Bags, coats, and other large personal items are not allowed in activity areas. Please store in lockers. 
  • Closed-toe shoes are required.
  • Appropriate athletic attire is required.
  • Drinks must be stored in a sealable container.
  • No food is allowed in any activity area.
  • Equipment must be wiped down after each use.
  • Please report any broken equipment to staff.
  • Outside private lessons or personal services are prohibited.
  • Safety collars must be used on all barbell exercises.
  • Dumbbells and weight plates must be reracked after each use.
  • Olympic lifting and deadlifting may only take place on the P3 lifting platforms.
  • Do not slam or drop equipment
  • Do not add weight plates as additional weight to any stack loaded machines.
  • Fitness equipment must remain in the Fitness Center and may not be moved to other parts of the building.
Third/Fourth Floor Courts
  • Non-marking athletic shoes required.
  • No dunking or hanging on rims.
  • No spitting.
  • Gum is prohibited. Please dispose of gum in waste baskets.
  • No sitting on baskets.
  • Closed-toe shoes are required.
  • Playing or shooting basketball is not allowed when any part of the volleyball or badminton systems are set up.
Open Recreation

Basketball

  • No dunking, hanging on rims or backboards allowed.
  • The next game is determined by calling "winners" or "next." The person calling "winners" or "next" must remain on the court.
  • Players on the losing team may not play in the following game if there are five or more people waiting to play.
  • If the number of players in the gym amounts to 10 people per basket LHWC reserves the right to stop full court play in favor of half court games.
  • Play must end if injury or illness occurs. The manager on duty must be notified.
     
Specialty Areas

Track

  • Run/Walk clockwise on even days and counterclockwise on odd days.
  • Proper athletic footwear required.
  • Please use warm up and cool down areas for stretching. Do not stretch on the track.

Boxing Station

  • Hand wraps or gloves must be worn.
  • Please wipe down bag(s) after each use.

Table Tennis

  • Table tennis tables must remain in the Table Tennis court.
  • Do not move or take apart any table tennis table.

Multipurpose Room

  • Non-marking shoes are required.
  • Outside equipment is not permitted in the Multipurpose Room.

Squash Courts

  • Non-marking shoes are required.
  • Eye guards are required for squash play.
Pool
  • Showers must be taken prior to entering the pool using the deck shower.
  • Practice common courtesy to other swimmers using the pool.
  • Swimming is only permitted when a Lifeguard is on duty and in the lifeguard chair.
  • Running and diving are strictly prohibited.
  • Appropriate swimwear is required.
  • Children under 16 years of age must be supervised by an adult on the deck.
  • No shoving, dunking or horseplay of any kind is permitted. 
  • Liquids must be in closed, resealable plastic container.
  • All lane swim patterns are counterclockwise.
  • Individuals having skin lesions; mouth, nose or ear discharges; or any other communicable disease may not use the pool.
  • No electronic equipment may be brought into the pool area.
  • Swimmers needing steps or the handicap lift take precedence in those lanes.
  • Lane lines are dividers and should only be used as floatation devices in an emergency.
  • Please dry off before leaving the pool area to avoid slipping or falling.
  • Appropriate footwear must be worn to and from the pool as well as on the pool deck.
Rental Equipment
  • Must present a valid GWorld card for equipment checkout.
  • All checked out equipment must be returned by close of LHWC on the day it was checked out.
  • Any lost, damaged, or stolen equipment is the responsibility of the renter.
  • Fees will be assessed for: damaged, late, lost, or stolen equipment.
Locker Rooms
  • Lock up all belongings. LHWC staff is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal items.
  • Return towels to the Equipment Desk.
  • Locks are available for checkout at the Equipment Desk.
  • Please dry off before exiting the locker room area.
  • At closing time, any locks remaining on day use lockers will be cut off.
  • Semester locker rentals are available for purchase online.
President's Club Sauna and Steam Rooms
  • Persons with medical conditions should consult a physician before using the sauna.
  • Please use caution when entering and exiting as the floor may be wet.
  • Bathing suit required.
  • Individuals must shower before using the sauna.
  • No newspapers, magazines, or paper products are permitted in the steam room/sauna.
  • Do not pour water onto heating coils in Sauna.
  • Limit your exposure to 10 minutes per sitting.
  • Drink plenty of water before and after using the steam room/sauna.
Facility Reservations and Special Events
  • All events and space rentals must be approved by Campus Recreation staff.
  • Any large group gathered in a specific space performing non-scheduled activities may be asked to disband.
  • All requests must be submitted at least three weeks ahead of the event date.
  • Only reservations that have been approved in writing will be honored. Submitting a request does not guarantee access to the space.
  • Reservation requests must be submitted online through DSE.

 

The West Hall Fitness Center is located on the B1 level of West Hall at 2100 Foxhall Road NW, Washington, DC 20007, on the Mount Vernon Campus. It is accessible to all members of the Mount Vernon Campus community with a GWorld card.

Equipped with free weights, functional weight training equipment, a Smith machine, the facility has all of the resistance tools to help you reach your strength training goals. For your cardio needs, the Fitness Center has treadmills, ellipticals, a boxing station, and a stepmill.
