Find joyful movement, enhance well-being, and receive individualized guidance and support with GW's personal training program. With four highly experienced and extensively educated trainers, you'll receive the guidance you need to improve your health while meeting your goals.

Our mission is the enhance the overall health and quality of life of individuals of the GW community and guests of the Lerner Health & Wellness center. Through fitness and movement, we seek to contribute to individual's long-term physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth.

What to Expect

Consultation

A session where your trainer solely dedicates their attention to uncovering what you're looking for in your personal training experience and to determine how to best guide you toward where you're looking to go. This includes discussing your goals and health related habits as well as a quick yet highly informative movement assessment.

Individualized Programming

After your consultation session, your trainer will create a program individualized for you based on your goals, exercise history, and movement assessment to best support your goal achievement and overall wellbeing. As long as you are engaging in regular sessions with your trainer, you will have access to their programming for you. If you're looking for only a consultation or a few sessions followed by a program to follow individually, packages will be available for this in the near future.

Accountability

Many people find one of the most valuable aspects of working with a trainer to be the accountability component. To know that there is an appointment set with a supportive professional is a top way to increase the motivation and consistency needed to make lasting changes in your health and fitness. You will discuss with your trainer how accountability works best for you and your trainer will be supportive and understanding throughout the entire process.

Expert Instruction

Our trainers understand the most cutting-edge fitness methods and techniques and are skilled communicators in explaining what to do any why in a manner that makes sense to you.

Partnership

Ask your trainer questions, challenge them when something doesn't make sense to you, bring up ideas for what you think might work well for you. Your trainer understands that so much of wellbeing is being able to listen to one's body and finding what works best for oneself. Your trainer is enthusiastic about hearing about your experience to partner with you to find the specific practices that work best for you.

Trainer Bios

Brian Stamps

Hi, I’m Brian, and I’ve been a fitness professional since my college days! Helping individuals achieve their fitness goals is my passion, and I love working with people of all experience levels. My specialties include HIIT and strength development, but I also bring a wide range of expertise with certifications in TRX, yoga, strength and conditioning, weightlifting, and meditation. I believe physical fitness is essential to a healthy lifestyle, and I strive to inspire others by leading through example. Whether you’re just starting your fitness journey or looking to take your training to the next level, I’m here to support and motivate you every step of the way!

Maryam Shahbaz Ali

My name is Maryam and I am a Certified Personal Trainer and Women’s Fitness Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), with over seven years of professional experience in personal and group training. I’ve worked as a trainer at The George Washington University since October 2024, helping individuals improve their overall health and fitness, and achieve specific goals such as 30–50% strength improvements over 12 weeks.

As founder and CEO of The Squat Junkie-Fitness Studio in Pakistan, I deliver exceptional client experiences through data-driven fitness solutions. Previously, at Ironbox Fitness Studio and AimFit, my client-centric approach led to great increases in monthly attendance and customer satisfaction.

My approach to fitness includes a deep commitment to continuing education, and I hold several specialty certifications in areas such as metabolic training and integrated balance training. I also greatly prioritize a client-centered approach, trusting each individual’s innate wisdom of their own body. I hope to apply these principles in working with you and look forward to guiding you toward your fitness goals in the most efficient and enjoyable way possible!

Theresa Hernandez

Theresa Hernandez is a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and PhD student at The George Washington University, specializing in Sports Business Leadership within Human and Organizational Learning. She brings a holistic approach to health and wellness, empowering clients to build strength, confidence, and sustainable fitness habits. Dedicated to supporting your fitness journey, Theresa is always available for questions and tips outside of sessions and classes. Tim O'Neal

Tim is a second year PhD student in exercise and nutrition at GWU, is nationally certified as a personal trainer and health coach, and is a registered dietician. Tim is deeply passionate about wellness and helping clients reach their fitness goals through delivering evidence-based, client-centered, total body fitness programming that optimize long-term health outcomes. He is dedicated to delivering inclusive and rewarding experiences to all participants, who can expect Tim to bring high energy, positivity, and encouragement to every session. Tim additionally teaches group fitness classes including barre, TRX, and indoor cycle.
