Colette Coleman serves as the Vice Provost for Student Affairs at the George Washington University, a leading research institution. With 16 years of progressive experience in higher education, Colette is a dynamic leader dedicated to fostering student belonging and creating transformative campus experiences.
Holding a Master’s in Business, Colette brings a strategic and analytical approach to her work, emphasizing creative and innovative solutions. Currently a doctoral candidate, her research focuses on socialization and onboarding and their impact on the leadership development of black female leaders in higher education cabinet positions. Colette believes in the efficacy of cross-functional teams and their role in advancing institutional goals.
Throughout her career, Colette has been a champion of collaboration and inclusion. She has a proven track record of leading cross-functional teams to deliver impactful outcomes, such as reimagining student engagement strategies, streamlining operational processes, and cultivating leadership development programs that empower students and staff.
As Vice Provost, Colette oversees a broad portfolio of departments dedicated to enhancing the student experience, including student life, health and wellbeing initiatives, and student support programs. Guided by a passion for organizational growth, Colette excels in aligning institutional priorities with a student-centered approach, ensuring that all students have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
Outside of her professional role, Colette is an active contributor to national conversations on higher education leadership, regularly presenting at conferences and engaging in thought leadership on topics such as executive leadership, change resilience, crisis management, and team dynamics.
Colette's vision is rooted in the beliefs that student affairs professionals play a pivotal role in shaping future leaders and that purposeful, inclusive, and collaborative leadership drives institutional excellence.
