Recruitment/Intake & New Member Resources
- Intake and Recruitment Guidelines
- Potential New Member (PNM) Requirements
For the 2025-2026 academic year, all new members are required to attend one New Member Retreat that is offered during the year.
- The New Member Retreat is a required education program for all new members of a social fraternity or sorority at the George Washington University. The program, hosted by the Fraternity and Sorority Life team, covers various topics such as, but not limited to, bystander training, alcohol/substance abuse, sexual assault awareness, diversity and inclusion, involvement beyond your membership, risk management, and hazing.
- The goal of the program is for potential new members to gain a better understanding of the role that fraternity and sorority members play in the Greek and GW communities, while also getting to know their peers. The Retreat is offered twice a year, and dates are communicated to chapter leadership months in advance. Chapters and councils may have additional requirements for new members.
- Register for the upcoming New Member Retreat through the FSL Events page on Engage!
Student Organization Requirements & FSL Accreditation
- Student Organization Requirements and Resources
Recognized Chapters within FSL are classified under the Red Line as part of GW's Pathways organization classification system. For more information on the Pathways, check out the Student Organizations website.
All FSL organization leaders should refer to the Handbook when making decisions and reach out to their FSL Staff Advisor or Org Help with any questions. The Handbook is regularly reviewed and updated, so please bookmark this page to ensure you are operating with the most up to date version.
- The Revolution Accreditation Program (RAP)
GW Fraternity and Sorority Life believes each chapter has the opportunity to be revolutionary for their organization and collectively advance the entire fraternity and sorority community through the continuous process of improvement. The Revolution Accreditation Program (RAP) allows chapters the opportunity to determine the best pathway for their success. The program is not a “one size fits all” model, but instead, encourages GW chapters to assess their current reality, determine goals to fit their individual needs, develop action plans to meet their established goals, and reflect on successes and opportunities for improvement. Chapters have the opportunity to continuously grow and improve, achieving the goals they set for themselves in each of the seven priority areas created to provide congruence with the commonly shared values of fraternities and sororities at GW expressed our FSL values: Resilience; Altruism; Inclusivity & Social Justice; Solidarity; and, Enthusiasm in Lifelong Learning.
To remain recognized by GW Fraternity and Sorority Life, all chapters are required to complete each of the Revolution components each year, including the submission of all requested forms and documentation. The seven priority areas include Academic Achievement, Harm Reduction, Community Service & Philanthropy, Membership Development, Membership Intake/Recruitment & New Member Retention, Chapter Management, and External Relations. Chapters must also participate in the evaluation process that includes End of Year Panels.
Accreditation schedules are based on the reported election cycle of each chapter president.
