From first-year students to first-generation students and transfer students, the Office of Student Life tailors services and events to reach all populations.
Student Organizations
Assembled under an array of causes, identities, and interests, student organizations at GW put on some of the most highly anticipated campus events and offer endless opportunities for involvement and leadership each year. With over 500+ student organizations, so there is something for everyone!
Fraternity & Sorority Life
FSL offers students the opportunity to create a home away from home while building lifelong friendships, developing leadership skills, and giving back to the community through service and philanthropy. With over 155 years of history, FSL is one of GW’s longest-standing traditions.
Leadership Development
Students’ involvement in leadership development, through positional and non-positional roles, is an important part of the college experience. These roles help develop a wealth of transferable skills that are not only useful while at GW and beyond.

THE VERN
The Mount Vernon Campus offers GW students a traditional college campus experience in the verdant Palisades neighborhood of Washington, D.C. And, with easy access to the downtown area, students living on the Vern truly get the best of both worlds. The Vern boasts a tight-knit community with vibrant campus programs, thriving performing arts, open green spaces, and active living-learning communities, while its focus on sustainability underscores the beauty of its location.
Vern Happenings
Cherish Vern traditions with friends, attend a cultural celebration, join your dean and faculty members for dinner, or cheer on your GW Revolutionaries at a home game. There is so much to do here as you live, learn, and study surrounded by your peers.
Life on the Vern
Nearly 700 GW students call the Mount Vernon Campus home. In residence halls and living-learning communities, students connect while enjoying multiple options for dining, studying, and recreation. In Vern classrooms, labs, libraries, and lecture halls, students from both Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses engage actively in academic pursuits.
Vern Resources
Need to look up the Vex shuttle schedule or the library hours? Want to know more about the community garden, Loop thrift shop, or Black Box theater? Looking to host a meeting or event at the Vern? It’s all here.

FINDING COMMUNITY
In Student Affairs, we believe that everyone can find their place here at GW. Through intentional community-building programs and initiatives, we can help connect you to the vibrant people, places, and community on and around campus, because you belong here.
Class Year Programs
By offering meaningful connections and community-building activities, Class Year Programs support students as they grow, learn, and make the most of their time at GW.
First-Generation
Find your community among other first-gen students! GW defines first-generation college students as those whose parents did not complete a four-year, baccalaureate degree.
Interfaith & Spiritual
We're providing opportunities to engage with spiritual life on campus through interfaith engagement, education, service, worship, and meditation.
