April Activities and Safety Reminders

April 4, 2025

Dear GW students,

As spring is in full bloom in Washington, D.C., I am reaching out to remind our community members that this is typically one of the busiest times for tourists in the District, and we can expect to see an increased number of visitors around our neighborhoods in the coming weeks.

Tomorrow, Saturday, April 5, multiple First Amendment activities are anticipated near the U.S. Capitol and the Washington Monument. Additionally, visitors from all over the world visit D.C. in April to take in our famed Cherry Blossom Festival. And right here on our campuses, we will welcome thousands of admitted students and their families for Inside GW days in the month of April.

These events may impact the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses with increased pedestrian and vehicular traffic. However, the university does not anticipate any changes to its operations and there is no information that suggests a specific concern for GW or other area campuses or institutions.

As always, the safety of our community members remains our highest priority, and I encourage you to visit the Safety website and Campus Advisories or download the GW Guardian app to get the most up-to-date information regarding safety on our campuses. Information about enrolling in GW Alerts also is available online.

I look forward to celebrating our community members with many GW traditions this spring like Buff & Bloom Week and Commencement. Happy spring!

Sincerely,
Colette Coleman
Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
