Passover
Passover, or Pesach in Hebrew, is a major Jewish holiday, also called “the festival of unleavened bread.” During the eight days of the festival, Jewish people commemorate the deliverance of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt, eating only unleavened bread or matzah, as did those who fled from Egypt. At the special ritual meal called the seder, the traditional narrative of Passover, as contained in the Passover Haggadah, is told.
This year, Passover will begin on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 and end on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
PASSOVER RESOURCES
- Academic Accommodations
The Office of the Provost has outlined academic policies for Religious Observance including Passover. Students are encouraged to communicate as early as possible with their faculty if accommodations are needed.
- GW Dining
Passover Resources are available for students at GW. During Passover, GW Dining will partner with GW Hillel and the Center for Interfaith & Spiritual Life to provide Kosher-for-Passover meals and Kosher-style meals throughout all of Passover at both the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses. Those seeking Hechshered Kosher-for-Passover food, cooked in a Kosher kitchen, can find details about meals being offered by contacting the Center for Interfaith & Spiritual Life or GW Hillel.
Meal plan holders will be able to use their meal plan during Passover in GW Dining facilities (serving Kosher-style meals) as well as Kosher-for-Passover meals that will be served at GW Hillel.
